Let’s start from the beginning. What is the difference between a website and a blog? How do you choose?
Every one speaks from their own experiences, so there are a lot of opinions about this particular issue. This is my disclaimer; I am speaking from my own experience and you are welcome to review others opinion in the matter. So here it is.
What is a website:
It is easy to customize. You can change the layout the content much easier and faster than a blog. The downside is that it takes a while to figure out what you want to do and how you are going to do it. Then, it does take a little longer to get started. You can use templates, hire someone, or do it yourself with your own software; the choices are endless in all of them. Another benefit is that website content tends to be timeless. It is content that you keep up to date, but truly is content that last through time. The marketing of a website, does require different strategies, and may more budget to get much more target traffic to it.
What is a blog:
It is easy to set up and start and there is little cero down time to get your going. They are also very cost effective; you can get started with very little investment. After you choose a theme it is much more difficult to change things around. I am referring to the content of it. If you want to add more columns or footer, etc, it may be very difficult to do so since the theme you choose is not equipped with those. The content is not necessarily timeless. Blogs are popular because you are providing constant information. They are very effective when you have a specific topic you talk about and you can provide updates frequently.
The real question is what do you need for your business? If you already have a website, you can create a blog as an extension of you website to drive more traffic to your website. That is a great strategy and works really well. However, if you don’t have either one of them, then don’t start with both of them at the same time. Choose the one that fits you better right now and start with that one.
I believe either route is good if you do the work. They both require action and lots of it for you to succeed and eventually you can have both if so you choose.
Yours in Synergy,
